John Martland

A retired trial lawyer, John moved permanently to Canmore seven years ago with his wife Jill and was promptly asked to join the Canmore Folk Festival board by then-Festival Director Ken Rooks. A lifetime devotee of folk music, John helped found the Calgary Folk Club in 1972. In 1980 he was part of the team that started the Calgary Folk Festival, and frequently played both Canmore and Calgary festivals as part of The Wild Colonial Boys, a Celtic band. He is especially proud to be able to help guide the Canmore Folk Festival, known across the country as a gem: a special small fest in an extraordinary location with wonderful music and a great vibe.
