A message to our community,
How the heck are you? The last couple of weeks have been a lot, eh?! Trust us, we get it — it’s a confusing time. We’ve been doing everything we can to be good community members by working at home, getting really good at zoom conference calls and wading through all the info we can to make wise decisions. There is a wonderful network of organizations across the country that are openly working together to figure out how to navigate through this and support our music community.
Of course, the looming question is — “will there be a 43rd Canmore Folk Festival?” At this point, we don’t know. Maybe not the answer you wanted to hear, but remember that we will do everything we can to bring you a festival this year if it’s deemed safe by experts. We are looking at what the options are: the full festival as per usual, a scaled-down version, a postponement until next year… It will really depend on how things change in the next 4 – 6 weeks.
We are committed to this community of music makers and those who appreciate it. We feel a responsibility to that community and to all of those who support us: artists, audience, funders, sponsors, vendors and all our volunteers. Music can bring people together, and we will continue to be a part of that, no matter what it looks like.
For now, we are postponing our line-up announcement until we know more. We need to wait and assess as things progress, anxiously checking the news for updates, connecting with our colleagues and doing what we can to continue with planning and preparations.
We hope you are finding joy in the little things. It is not easy, but if we band together as a community, we can certainly overcome this and maybe even come out on the other side shining brighter.
As the situation becomes clearer and as we get closer to the festival, we will know more, and we will share the information with you every step of the way.
Stay Safe, Folkies!
