The Canmore Folk Music Festival is the premiere event of Canmore’s summer tourist season, drawing thousands of music fans from across Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and the northwest USA every August long weekend to enjoy music, food and a shared community of folkies, against the beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies.
We are the music of the people, of the folks. Since 1978, we have introduced the finest roots, bluegrass, world, blues and gospel music to ever-increasing numbers of people. We are the longest running folk music festival in Alberta. We are 21,000 strong over three days of the Heritage Long weekend, including an off-site pub, a free Festival Friday kick-off concert, and a free pancake breakfast for the whole town. We are the largest annual cultural event in the Bow Valley.
As a volunteer with the Canmore Folk Music Festival, you are a big part of a wonderful team that works together to create an amazing event – we couldn’t do it without you! You are our ambassadors and our philosophy is to treat people well, have fun and smile. And then smile some more!

The Canmore Folk Music Festival welcomes 50-60 artisans and fair trade retailers to our vendor village each year. We offer a vast array of handmade and fair trade goods to purchase from jewellery, musical instruments, and furniture to clothing and art. We welcome 5,000 patrons per day to the festival.
Our vendors are selected from over 100 applicants and judged on a variety of factors, such as quality and originality, price, artistic talent, booth displays and the environmental sustainability of their goods. Previous participation in the Canmore Folk Festival does not guarantee acceptance the following year.
As well as the vendor village the Canmore Folk Music Festival also has a food boardwalk filled with unique vendors from the region. We host 10-15 food vendors to serve the 4000-5000 patrons per day.
Due to Covid-19 and Provincial restrictions we have cancelled the 2020 festival. Please see our news section for more information.
