Land Acknowledgement

The Canmore Folk Festival is located within the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. We hold immense respect for this beautiful land and acknowledge the Canmore area, known as “Chuwapchipchiyan Kudi Bi” (translated in Stoney Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”) and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Îyârhe Nakoda, comprised of the Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation, and Goodstoney First Nation, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai. We acknowledge that this land is also home to the Rocky View Métis District 4 within the Battle River Territory.

At the Canmore Folk Festival we are proud to hold space for the Indigenous voices of these Nations who live, work, play and help us steward this land. We recognize our shared responsibility going forward on this journey of Truth and Reconciliation.
